if you're so clever, why are you hard to find
I've been building a tool to help VCs find interesting "nodes" to add to their network. The sad realisation I've had is that it doesn't find me.
On the one hand, being easy to find is not necessarily desirable. There are good reasons why one may want to add friction to the process of being found. For example, Shopify considered putting their careers page behind an API, to self-select technical people even for product roles. Tyler Cowen at Emergent Ventures makes a point of not publicising his grants, to avoid getting inundated with applications and to only attract earnest, talented individuals.
At the same time, we're seeing a coming of age of LLMs able to ingest vast amounts of data from the internet. I think we'll see more and more applications helping you to find interesting people to hire, give seed money to etc. Because of this, I think writing about things, however niche, will have considerably higher returns in the future: you never know, an LLM-agent hunting the web for a specific profile may just spot you.
It's a key part of what I'm building at the moment at moonai.io.
